Scale Rally

2021 Fun Fly

Due to COVID concerns there will be no 2021 Scale Rally. We have decided to host a Fun Fly instead. The event will NOT be open to the public and restricted to MAAC pilots and related family members. The Fun Fly will take place the first weeknd after Labour day on Saturday Sept 11 and Sunday Sept 12, 2021. The Flight Line will be unregulated and self managed. The Waterloo Rod and Gun Club will be providing food services that weekend, Breakfast, Hamburgers/Sausages/Fries, and are also selling tickets for a Spaghetti Dinner Saturday Sept 11, 2021.

Camping is available, as noted below for MAAC pilots/family.

We hope to return to a normal scale Rally in Sept 2022.

For over 50 years, the K-W Flying Dutchmen has hosted one of the largest Scale Rallies in North America at our field near Kitchener-Waterloo. It is always held on the weekend following Labour Day. This air show features ~300 aircraft on static display, most of which will be flown over the two-day event. From high-speed turbine jets, to old-time bi-planes this show features a bevy of interesting aircraft. Pilots from as far away as Alberta, Canada and California, USA have attended our Scale Rally. There are R/C vendors on site, as well as food and beverage vendors. Raffles are also held on both Saturday and Sunday.

Friday night we welcome the pilots with a corn roast in the evening. Flying begins at 9 a.m. each day, after the pilots meeting, and continues until 5 p.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. There is also an “Air Show” at 1:00 p.m. on both both days featuring aircraft from various eras, unique planes, helicopters, multi-engine aircraft and jets.

Admission is $7 per day, kids under 12 years $1 per day, NO charge for registered pilots.

This is strictly a Scale and Stand-Off Scale event. MAAC or AMA membership is required to fly. Muffler/FAI sound level rules will be enforced. All 72 MHz radio transmitters are self regulated.

Electricity for charging batteries onsite is limited.  There are a few campsites that have electricity available.  Electricity at the KWFD clubhouse is used for equipment required to operate the scale rally.  It is advisable to bring your own power source or ensure that your batteries are fully charged before attending.

There are about 40 campsites (some with electricity hook-ups) available anytime the week before the Rally for $10.00 a night ($15 with electricity). As well, there are many area hotels/motels and other camping facilities in the Kitchener/Waterloo area. Food is available on-site throughout the weekend.

Up to 5,000+ spectators usually take in this two day event. Come back to our site often for all the newest information about our Scale Rally and club happenings.

The biggest and best RC Scale Rally in Ontario…Fantastic!
